ACA Marketplace plans (often called Obamacare plans) are the comprehensive, guaranteed-issue option. Every one of them covers the ten essential health benefits, none of them can turn you down or charge you more for your health history, and all of them are eligible for the premium tax credits that make coverage affordable for most households that buy their own insurance.
Plans are sorted into metal tiers — Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum — that describe how you and the plan split costs, not the quality of care. Bronze has the lowest premium and the highest deductible; Gold and Platinum flip that. Silver is the tier worth understanding, because cost-sharing reductions attach only to Silver plans and can quietly cut a household’s deductible by thousands of dollars if the income qualifies.
Open Enrollment runs November 1 through January 15 in most states. Outside that window you need a qualifying life event — losing coverage, moving, marriage, a new baby, turning 26 — which opens a 60-day Special Enrollment Period. Call and we will tell you within a minute whether a door is open to you today.
